Mayoral polls: 40 nomination forms already issued

Even as the countdown for the mayoral polls has begun, political parties are making a beeline for nominations for the posts. According to the BBMP officials, as many as 40 nomination forms have been given out till now.The mayoral poll is scheduled for September 11.

“Political parties can submit the nomination forms a day before the polls or can file them even on September 11 between 8 am and 9.30 am. The process will begin with Regional Commissioner administering oath to the councillors-elect,” said BBMP Council Secretary Bheemappa. Regional Commissioner (Bengaluru division) M V Jayanthi, in co-ordination with BBMP officials has ensured all arrangements for smooth and fair elections.

The BBMP officials said that the seating arrangements for the D-Day have been completed. The council hall has a seating capacity for 270.

“The council comprises 260 councillors including 28 MLAs of Bengaluru, five MPs, 21 MLCs and eight Rajya Sabha members. There are ten extra seats just in case they are needed,”  said BBMP spokesperson, S S Khandre.

Police will be deployed in and around the BBMP head office during the election.
