'I will get answers for questions on Yettinahole'

Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader has said that he would take the responsibility of getting answers to the 10 questions, posed to elected representatives by Sahyadri Sanchaya on Yettinahole project,  from Major Irrigation officials, at an open public meeting on September 19.

The answers will aim at removing the doubts in the minds of the people of Dakshina Kannada district on the project, he added.

When asked about his stand on the Yettinahole at a press meet here on Friday, he said the Cabinet had already given its nod and the work cannot be stopped at this juncture.
“The senior officials from the Major irrigation department will solve the doubts in the minds of the people with regard to the pros and cons of the project. I will also appeal to the minister for irrigation to take part in the programme,” Khader said.

When the current Union Minister for Law was the chief minister of Karnataka, the project was approved without DPR and based on line estimate, the minister said.

When asked about the IISc report which states that Yettinahole rivulet doesn’t have 9 tmc of water, he said that he was not an expert to comment on the issue. All efforts will be made to solve the confusion in the minds of the people at the open public meeting on September 19.

Upgrade
The community health centres will be upgraded through Nabard and NRHM by the health and family welfare department in the State. Under the NRHM, it has been proposed to open a 100-bedded maternal and child health wing at Udupi, at a cost of Rs 13.75 crore, Khader said.

Community health centres at Uppinangady, Kadaba and Kokkada will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs five crore each. Primary Health Centres will be opened at Amblamogaru in Mangaluru taluk, Manchi and Kurnad in Bantwal taluk and Charmadi in Belthangady taluk, at a cost of Rs 1.30 crore each.

The Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) centres have been proposed at Belvai, Bajpe, Kaniyoor and Mundaje, the minister added.
