Wait for housing under govt housing schemes to end soon

The wait for permanent roof for the beneficiaries of Basava and Indira Awas Housing schemes seems to end soon with the recent order of the State government.

The government has issued orders that the beneficiaries of housing schemes can utilise 90 mandays under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) for laying foundation, construction of walls and other stages of the housing works.

The family members, registered under NREGA, can also reap benefits from this scheme. With this, along with Rs 1.20 lakh financial aid, the beneficiary can also get a wage of Rs 18,350 under NREGA. However, the government has laid some conditions to avail the aid.

A total of 28 mandays can be used for foundation, 24 for building walls, 10 for roof and 28 mandays for the remaining works. The beneficiary will get the amount only if they adhere to all these rules.

For the year 2015-16, 4,300 houses have been sanctioned for the district under Basava Housing scheme and 1,300 houses under Indira Awas scheme. The beneficiaries have already been selected through gram sabhas at all the 130 gram panchayat limits. The online registration of names of beneficiaries is under process at the panchayats.

The TP  executive officer will verify the names. Later, a list of eligible beneficiaries will be submitted to the ZP. It will be then forwarded to the authorities concerned to facilitate the release of funds in four instalments.

However, Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation has warned of cancelling the benefit if the construction cost exceeds Rs 5 lakh.

ZP CEO K H Narasimhamurthy said the all panchayat development officers have been directed to complete the online registration of the names of the beneficiaries soon. The list would be verified and forwarded to the corporation.
