Global investors' meet postponed to Feb 2016

The State government has postponed its global investors' meet “Invest Karnataka 2015” scheduled to be held from November 23 to 25 citing widespread drought and power crisis in the State. The meet will now be held from February 3 to 5, 2016.

Announcing this to the media, Industries Minister R V Deshpande on Wednesday said that sentiment in the State was not conducive to holding the investors' meet. “Farmers are in distress. As many as 136 taluks are hit by drought, and water level at all reservoirs is very low. So the government has decided to organise the meet next year,” he added.

The minister said that the power situation in the State had become grim due to drought, but added that the condition would improve in the coming months.

Karnataka will be a power-surplus State by June 2016. About 2,300 MW of power will be added to the State grid in the coming months, the minister said.
