Pothole death: BJP terms police action 'insensitive', 'senseless'

Last Updated 19 September 2015, 20:52 IST

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned the registration of a case against Om Prakash Tripathi, whose wife died after the bike they were riding, skidded off the road after sliding into a pothole.

The party has termed the act of city traffic police “insensitive” and “senseless.” In a press release, the BJP’s State media in-charge S Prakash stated that the City administration was in slumber and it had failed to address the issue despite three tragic deaths.

“The Congress government and its City-based ministers have completely failed to act on such serious issues. The Home minister, I strongly believe, can neither see or hear anything these days. The thick-skinned attitude is reflecting on deteriorating policing in the City. The three tragic deaths did not move the administration to act swiftly to prevent an avoidable accident.”

He added that the police, instead of registering a case against BBMP engineers and the contractors, were taking on a hapless grieving husband who is yet come out of the shock due to his wife’s death.

He has demanded an apology from Home minister and the district in-charge minister on the “inhuman behaviour” of police and failure of BBMP in fixing potholes despite the deaths.

He has also criticised Mayor B N Manjunath Reddy asking him to come out of his victory celebrations and focus on the serious issues haunting the City.
