RVD refutes charges, says land was bought legally

Industries Minister R V Deshpande on Monday rejected JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy's charges of encroaching  upon forest land and dared him to prove his charges. “I am shocked with the charges made by Kumaraswamy. All charges are far from truth. Neither me nor any member of my family has grabbed even an inch of land in Bengaluru. It is unbecoming of a former chief minister (Kumaraswamy) to make false allegations,” he stated.

The then government had granted land near Jakkur to those who lost their lands at Thippagondanahalli. The grant was made about 65 years ago. Several of those who got the lands got them converted for non-agriculture use. A piece of those lands was bought legally, he claimed. The land till recently was under Yelahanka urban local body. Later it was brought under the BBMP limits. Hundreds of houses have been built on those lands.

The Forest department has issued notice to, among others, Jakkur aerodrome, the State government, Agriculture University and South Western Railways. All this information has been already furnished to Income Tax Department and the Karnataka Lokayukta, he added.
