Artist Vijay Singh, popularly known as ‘Alokik’ in the world of wedding card artworks, has taken the next step and curated his first solo show of paintings titled ‘The Curved Trunk’ at the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society.

With the ten glorious days of Ganesh Chaturthi just getting over, Singh has made his foray into the world of art by paying tribute to Lord Ganesha. His curved trunk symbolises the primordial cosmic sound of Aum and the intellect and wisdom of the mighty lord. He helps one follow the path of truth and corrects those erring souls who transgresses the laws of righteousness.

In the ancient times, it’s said, that Lord Ganesha is the god of all gods. The artist started drawing Ganesha out of fascination,  majorly because of the positive energy imparted by the lord.

Singh says, “Over the years, I have collected several art pieces of Ganesha from across the globe. In the ‘Curved Trunk’ series, I have portrayed Ganesha in various postures with different meanings in each of the paintings.”

Ever since he started reading about him, he started painting on his different names like krati the lord of music; pramukha the lord who is omnipresent, only to gain more and more knowledge and wisdom from the Lord’s divinities. Using varied hues of acrylic colours, Singh has tried to bring out Ganesha’s glories with immense dynamism and magnificence.

Speaking of his inspiration behind his exhibition, he tells Metrolife, “My father
Rangroop used to be a prominent calendar artist. I grew up seeing his artwork and developed a passion for paintings. Having extensively designed exclusive wedding cards, it finally took me an entire year to do my first solo show.”

The Curved Trunk exhibition will be on display at the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society, from September 23 to September 29.
Time: 11 am to 7 pm.
