JOIN USThe High Court on Thursday ordered notice to the State government, commissioner and director of Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES), and the committee which selects sportspersons for the Ekalavya Awards.
The petitioner, V Varshith, a junior roller skating champion, has questioned the guidelines adopted by the selection committee which renders the junior athletes/sportspersons ineligible for the award.
The petitioner has contended that the guidelines framed favours the senior sportspersons.
The junior athletes/sportspersons who have won medal in international competitions gets 15 points while the senior sportspersons were given 25 points for featuring in any international sports meet.
The petitioner has questioned the disparity in framing the guidelines to select the sportspersons for the highest sports award in the State and sought quashing of the guidelines adopted by the selection committee. Justice AS Bopanna ordered notice and adjourned the hearing.
