Last Updated 02 October 2015, 18:37 IST

German technical and safety certification company TUV Rheinland India has bet big on food testing, an area which has seen considerable drama in recent times, with few large food companies being put under the scanner.

“We want to expand in the food testing sector since food is something that people are much concerned about these days, and it is part of our daily life. Apart from looking at the commercial side, we also would like to take initiatives to educate the public in general, and convey the message that what they consume is safe and certified,” TUV Rheinland India Director M Bhaskar said.

TUV Rheinland has built major food testing capabilities in India. With a full-fledged microbiology, chemical and instrumentation facility to carry out testing of food and water, the company carries out studies of food materials, based on a set of approved test parameters.

“Some of our key services include Microbiological Testing of Cooked and Processed Food, Chemical Testing of Cooked and Processed Food, Water Testing as per IS 10500:2012 (ground source water), IS 14543 (packaged drinking water), IS 4251 (Process water from Food processing Units), Nutritional Fact analysis, Shelf Life Study of Food Products, and Analysis of Naturally Occurring Toxins, among others,” Bhaskar said.

TUV Rheinland has already invested Rs 350 crore towards its business in India, and is looking at inorganic growth in a big way.

“We are always aiming for organic growth. But over a period of time we started to concentrate on inorganic growth as well,” he said.
