District Congress Committee (DCC) members are making all arrangements for the party Vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the district on October 9.

There are certain changes to the earlier schedule. The party members, who had decided to invite the relatives of the deceased farmers for an interaction with Rahul Gandhi at the Visvesvaraya Canal (VC) Farm on the premises of University of Agricultural Sciences, have now dropped the plan.

DCC president M S Atmananda said Rahul Gandhi would visit the houses of the deceased farmers at Panakanahalli and Kothathi in Mandya taluk on October 9 and offer condolences to the family members according to the new schedule. Later, he would participate in an interaction with progressive farmers at VC Farm.

Fifty progressive farmers of the district have been identified and would be invited for the interaction. Besides, 30 students pursuing MSc, BSc and diploma courses and 30 scientists serving in the university would also take part in the interaction. V C Farm Dean Dr T Shivashankar said the list of the scientists and students has already been submitted to the party functionaries.

Preparations are in full swing at VC Farm, Panakanahalli and Kothathi to make the entire programme a smooth affair. The buildings have been given a fresh coat of paint. The road connecting VC Farm from the main road has been repaired. It may be mentioned that the locals have been demanding for repair of the road since long, which has now been taken up, thanks to Rahul’s visit.

Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company (Cesc) authorities have been directed to ensure that power is not disrupted on the day.Cesc workers have pruned tree branches to prevent any disturbance in power supply.

Repair works on the road from Mandya to VC Farm and Kothathi have also been taken up. Agriculture, Police and Revenue Department officials have been visiting the houses of the farmers, alerting and mentally preparing them for the visit of Rahul Gandhi. Congress leaders too have already paid a visit to their houses.

Original interaction
Meanwhile, Raitha Horata Samithi and Karnataka Janashakti organisations have invited Rahul Gandhi via Facebook and email, to take part in an original interaction at Panakanahalli on the day at 10 am.

H V Vasu, member of the organisation, said that an interaction with the select audience would not give a clear picture. Hence, Rahul Gandhi should participate in the actual interaction, he added.
