KSEB down SCR to book semis berth

 Needing nothing less than a win to keep their hopes alive in the 2nd Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty All-India Basketball tournament, Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) recorded a convincing 73-56 win over South Central Railways in their Pool ‘B’ tie at the Sree Kanteerava indoor stadium here on Friday.

With this win, KSEB have progressed to the semifinals of the competition where they will take on Pool ‘A’ toppers Income Tax on Saturday. Albin Baby with 28 points, paved the way for KSEB as they raced to an early 24-17 lead.

Meanwhile, Ashwin Xav­ier Philip (14 points) and Tony K Mathew (11) made sure that there was no way back for SCR as they kept up the pressure with their precise shooting skills.
Earlier in the day, Income Tax continued their red hot streak to beat Karnataka 79-59.

Pool B: KSEB: 73 (Albin Baby 28, Ashwin Xavier 14, Tony K Mathew 11) bt South Central Railway: 56 (Naveen 17, Nihal Yadav 8); Vijaya Bank: 90 (Rajesh Uppar 22, Anil Kumar 20, Arvind Arumugam 18) bt Integral Coach Factory, Chennai: 67 (Praveen Kumar 21, C Seenivasan 14, K Mukunth 11).

On Thursday: Pool B: ICF, Chennai: 93 (Praveen K 32, Mukunth 16) bt SCR: 67 (David Boon 12, Sujith Reddy 11).
