Street plays, songs, talks, films to lift farmers' morale

Rangayana to host a mix of events to target crisis-hit agrarian community

To give succour to farmers, who have been reeling under crisis, Rangayana theatre repertory, in association with the District Administration, has planned to do its bit for them during Dasara.

A melange of events – street plays, talks, rendering of songs and film show, that could lift their sagging morale has been lined up from October 13 to 21 in different parts of the district.

Addressing the media on Saturday, Rangayana director H Janardhan (Janny) said
that at a time when the farmers were taking the extreme step of ending their lives, that was unheard of earlier, the artistes from the repertory would go to the taluk headquarters, hoblis and mainly those villages where farmers have committed suicide,
totalling 12 places on the itinerary.

The programme ‘Raithara kadege Rangayanada nadige’ (Rangayana towards farmers) will also make use of ‘Raitha Dasara’ event at taluk headquarters. Street plays will be staged, besides rendering of songs on agrarian crisis. Also, wherever the artistes come across a group of farmers, they will not hesitate to stop and perform, Janny said.
Three troupes will be setting out on the mission, with each team comprising senior and junior artistes of the repertory, besides first year students of Ranga Shikshana diploma course.

Nine successful farmers will deliver talks during evening hours at ‘Bidiranga’, a podium made of bamboo on the Rangayana premises. A model village will be recreated to give an apt look.

Film show
The film show, planned by Rangayana in association with the Information and Public Relations department, has highly acclaimed movies on farmer-related issues in Kannada on the list.

In all, nine films will be screened at Bhoomigeetha, from 7 pm. The entry is free.
