Dr Nitish Kalyanpur, who won nine gold medals at the 8th convocation of Karnataka Veterinary Animal Fisheries Sciences University (KVFASU) here on Saturday, has become a star attraction.

A student of Veterinary College Bengaluru and an avid lover of domestic animals, Nitish was brilliant in academics right from his school days. He completed his pre-university course at St Joseph’s College notching up a distinction. However, his affection for animals turned him towards veterinary medicine. He is presently pursuing specialisation in surgery and radiology from the Veterinary Research Institute of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.

Attributing his academic success to his parents – father Kishore who works in private firm and mother Biskoi Kalyanpur – he said both encouraged him to pursue whatever course he liked. Although he got a medical seat, he chose to pursue veterinary science, which was welcomed by his parents wholeheartedly, he said. His mother Biskoi described her son as a bright kid and attributed his academic success to his love and affection for animals.

Another student from Bengaluru, Vikram, who completed his BVSc from Bidar Veterinary College, won five gold medals at the convocation. He is presently pursuing his Master’s in gynaecology from the Veterinary Institute in Bareilly.
