JOIN US There was no stopping the swimmers from the Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre as they raced their way to clinch the overall title on the concluding day of the State Senior Aquatics Championships here on Sunday.
Led by duo of Arvind M and Malavika V, BAC pocketed 28 gold, 27 silver and 23 bronze medals to top the charts with 503 points.
Taking the pool for one last time at the meet, Arvind, who was named the best swimmer of the championship in the men’s category, was in his elements as he clinched the 50M backstroke title in a closely fought race. Arvind touched the pad in 27.79 seconds, while his team-mate Rakshith Shetty took the silver in 28.55 seconds. Another BAC product, Saurabh Vernekar, completed the podium in 31.03 seconds.
Meanwhile in the women’s section, Malavika, who was adjudged the best swimmer in the women’s category, won the 200M freestyle gold, re-writing her own State mark in fine fashion.
The BAC swimmer clinched the yellow metal in 4:30.41, to better her own mark of 4:35.67 set in 2014. Her team-mate Nikitha SV won the silver in 4:48.60, while Preksha HM completed the all-BAC podium in 4:53.59.
