CM appeals to writers not to return awards

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said there is nothing wrong in condemning the killing of Prof M M Kalburgi, but the writers and intellectuals should not resort to returning awards conferred on them.

Speaking to reporters, he said it is not proper for writers and intellectuals to return awards given to them in recognition of their life-time contribution. He urged them not to return the awards. The police are investigating the Kalburgi killing case and the culprits will soon be arrested, he added.

He said he was planning to call an all-party meeting on the vexed issue of Kalasa Banduri project soon. Though the State has been reeling under severe drought, the Centre has so far not responded to the State government's pleas seeking financial assistance. A Central team had inspected the drought-affected places in September and submitted a report.
