MLC finds fault with Nimhans for child's death

Last Updated 14 October 2015, 20:35 IST

Congress MLC V S Ugrappa on Wednesday pinned the blame on Nimhans for the death of 19-month-old Gagana, who succumbed to her injuries on Monday after she was shuttled one hospital to another.

“There’s been a major mistake by Nimhans. If immediate attention was given to the child, she would have survived” Ugrappa told mediapersons here.

Having visited all three hospitals - St Martha’s, Nimhans and Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health (IGICH) following Gagana’s death, Ugrappa said there was no coordination between the three hospitals.

Ugrappa, Chairperson of the Committee on protection of women and children, said Nimhans, which has 35 ventilators, referred the child to IGICH, which does not have a neurosurgeon.
He demanded that the government should ensure that all hospitals in the City are networked or linked, so that there is no gap in communication when it comes to handling trauma cases.
