Army deserter wanted for robberies, murder lands in police custody

Police wanted him for looting cash outside bank in Okhla

An interstate criminal, who is an ex-soldier, and wanted for crimes ranging from robberies in Delhi and murder in Madhya Pradesh, was arrested in Lucknow, police said.

According to police, Sudhir Parihar, 30, also known as Fauzi, was arrested on October 8. After deserting the army in 2012, Parihar committed several crimes.

“He committed a murder in Gwalior and two robberies in south-east Delhi. He is the mastermind of the sensational heist in which he along with his partners fired upon the victims and robbed cash outside Bank of India in Okhla,’’ a police officer said.

“They then made a planned escape by throwing some notes of their robbed booty in the air to distract bystanders. People standing there started collecting the notes and the culprits escaped with the rest of the booty,” the officer added.

After his arrest, Parihar disclosed that he had joined the army in 2003 as a rifleman (sepoy). On December 2011, he took leave to go to his village and was to return to his place of posting on January 5, 2012, but he did not return.

According to police, Parihar had developed an interest in property disputes in his area. Being from the army, he used his clout among criminals and formed his own gang.

Gradually he rose to prominence and had a rivalry with people in his area, who were also involved in property disputes.

He was particularly at loggerheads with one of the heavyweights in Gwalior and to have supremacy over him, he murdered his rival gang leader, Bunty Gurjar, police said.

After the murder of Gurjar, he fled from Gwalior and was declared a proclaimed offender. After leaving Gwalior, Parihar developed close relations with other rogue and criminal elements in UP, MP and Delhi and planned two robberies, which were executed in Badarpur and Okhla.

In the dacoity in Okhla, Parihar along with Ankesh Singh, Iqrar Khan, Pankaj, Bhura and Anuj did the reccee of the Bank of India branch in Okhla Industrial Area.

Parihar also stole two motorcycles and procured one sophisticated and a country-made pistol to be used in the robbery, police said.
