A new twist has emerged in the Tumakuru gang rape case following a fresh statement made by the victim to the police that she was sexually assaulted by two men and not five.

The police on Friday arrested three persons in connection with the gang rape of the garment factory employee in a moving vehicle on Tuesday night.

Police identified the suspects as V Raju, 45, an auto-rickshaw driver, Chikkathotlukere Karim Pasha, 28, a lorry driver, and Shafiullah, 25, from Gerehalli village and questioning them about their role in the case.

It is learnt that the victim, a resident of Laggere in Bengaluru, had come over to the city to meet her friend. After her efforts to meet her friend failed, she boarded an auto to visit her sister at Yellapur on the outskirts of Tumakuru on Tuesday night. Auto-rickshaw driver Rajanna, it is said, misbehaved with her after she rejected his sexual advances. He snatched her mobile phone and pushed her out of the moving auto-rickshaw near Sira Gate.

Pasha and Shafi noticed the woman sitting in front of a roadside shop near Antarasanahalli bypass.

The woman explained her ordeal to the duo. Pasha and Shafi said they were going to Bengaluru and coaxed her to board the car. The duo raped her in the moving car by turns before pushing her out of vehicle near Panditanahalli Gate.

Meanwhile, auto driver Rajanna, who had snatched the mobile phone from the victim, was using it. After tracing the mobile tower location, the special team tracked down the suspect.

During questioning, Rajanna is said to have revealed the names of other suspects, sources said.
