Corporators told to come clean on wealth

More than a dozen newly elected corporators, who have not submitted details of their assets to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike administration, may be in for trouble.

A group of anti-corruption volunteers, under the banner ‘We the People of Bengaluru’, has taken up the issue with the mayor to ensure that the corporators submit details of their assets to the government or face cancellation of their membership in the Palike Council.

A delegation of the volunteers, led by Kumar Jahgirdar, senior advocate K V Dhananjay and Dr Dominic F Dixon, called on Mayor B N Manjunath Reddy on Wednesday and apprised him of the necessity for the corporators to submit details of their assets to him.

Citing sections of the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act, the delegation said that if the corporators fail to do so within a month of getting elected and furnish similar details each year in the same month, then they ceased to be corporators.
Jahgirdar said he would be forced to initiate legal action if the mayor failed to act.
