An 18-year-old girl lost her life after she fell from the terrace of a three-storey building in south Delhi’s Safdarjung Enclave in the wee hours of Saturday. The girl lived with her uncle’s family in their third-floor flat.

Police said no foul play was suspected behind the girl’s death as her family claimed that she accidentally fell off the terrace. The girl has been identified as Rajpriya Sinha and the uncle with whom she lived is a former Bihar MLA.

“No case was registered in connection with the incident,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South District) Prem Nath. The incident was reported to police around 4 am from the hospital where she was taken for treatment. “The hospital authorities informed us after the girl was declared brought dead,” Nath added.

Police enquired into the incident and learnt that Rajpriya was partying on the building’s terrace with her sister and friends. Rajpriya had also invited some of her friends to the party.

Around 2.30 am, one of her friends arrived outside the building in an autorickshaw. The friend called Rajpriya on her mobile phone and asked for some money for paying the autorickshaw fare.

“As Rajpriya bent down on the railing to throw down some currency notes, she lost balance and fell from the terrace,” another police officer said. The investigating officers have recorded the statement of Rajpriya’s sister.

Rajpriya’s post-mortem was conducted at AIIMS. The initial autopsy report suggests that she died due to excessive bleeding and head injuries. A team from Safdarjung Enclave police station is probing into the matter.

Rajpriya was a class 12 student of Laxman Public School in south Delhi’s Hauz Khas. Her parents, who live in Bihar, reached the capital on Saturday afternoon.
