Last Updated 30 October 2015, 19:11 IST

The AIIMS team which conducted the DNA tests to determine the parentage of Geeta, who returned to India over 10 years after she crossed into Pakistan, was submitted to the Ministry of External Affairs late on Thursday night.

“The DNA test report was submitted to the MEA on Thursday night. We cannot divulge the details of the findings,” said a senior doctor of AIIMS. Geeta, 23, is deaf and mute. The DNA tests were conducted after a couple from Bihar – Janardhan Mahato and his wife – identified Geeta as their daughter.

Geeta, however, refused to acknowledge them as their parents on arrival in India. In Karachi, Geeta had identied the Mahato couple as her family through photographs.

In case the DNA samples of Geeta and the Mahato couples do not match, the government will make fresh efforts to reunite her with her original family.
