The BJP is contemplating to initiate legal proceedings against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for his comments on consuming beef.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Saturday, BJP State President Pralhad Joshi and former chief minister Jagadish Shettar said Siddaramaiah had hurt the sentiments of crores of people of state by making the statement.

Siddaramaiah, while speaking at a Youth Congress meet in Bengaluru this week, had said, “If I want to eat beef, I will eat it. Nobody can stop me,” attacking the anti-beef eating policy of the right wing organisations.“Cow is revered and worshiped by majority of the people of the State. But just to gain votes from a particular community, the chief minister has made the statement. It has hurt the belief and sentiments of the people,” Joshi said.

He said even Mahatma Gandhi was against slaughter of the cow. “Siddaramaiah’s stand goes against the ideology of  Mahatma Gandhi,” Joshi said.  Shettar said the party was in contact with legal experts on initiating legal proceedings against Siddaramaiah for hurting the sentiments of the people.
