Government committed to protect State's art and culture: George

The reading and writing skills in Kannada should be improved by widespread use of the language in the schools and colleges and at home, said District In-charge Minister K J George.

Speaking after unfurling the National flag during the 60th Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations in the city on Sunday, he said there was a need to strive for the growth of the Kannada language. Mysore state was renamed as Karnataka in 1973. Several persons have fought for the unification of Karnataka.

He said that the State government had implemented several pro-people programmes under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The State government is committed to safeguard the art and culture of the land.

MLA M P Appacchu Ranjan, former minister M C Nanaiah, ZP Vice President Allaranda Beena Bollamma, Kannada Sahitya Parishat district president T P Ramesh, CMC president Shreemathi Bangera, DC Meer Anees Ahmmed, ZP CEO M Kurma Rao and others were present.

The police, NCC, Seva Dal, Scouts and Guides took part in an attractive march past.  Home Guards Vishalakshi and Neethu were felicitated on the occasion.

Morarji Desai Schools in Aloor, Siddapura and Basavanahalli were felicitated for securing cent per cent results in the SSLC. In the cultural programmes, the students of five schools — St Joseph School, St Michael School, Rajarajeshwari School, Crescent School and Kodagu Vidyalaya together performed group dances.
