JOIN USBengalureans on Sunday were in for a pleasant surprise as they were greeted by cooling showers on Rajyotsava day.
The celebrations in the City were not hampered during the morning and late evening hours. However, the outing of citizens during the afternoon and early evening was stalled because of the sudden downpour.
The City on Sunday, upto 5.30 pm, recorded 1.2 mm rainfall, while the HAL and Kempegowda International airports recorded 2.8 mm 0.6 mm respectively.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said that rainfall was because of the Northeastern monsoon and would continue for the next two days. The IMD has forecast cloudy sky and thundershowers for the next 48 hours across south interior Karnataka.
Dip in temperature
The rainfall brought a dip in the mercury level which was hovering around 29 to 30 degree Celsius for the past couple of days. On Sunday, Benglauru recorded a maximum of 27.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 21.7 degrees Celsius, against the normal maximum and minimum of 29 and 21 degrees Celsius respectively.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) control room did not receive any major complaints. A fallen tree branch was reported from Sahakaranagar.
