'Will retire if BJP does not win next polls'

Eshwarappa says at convention, challenges CM to do same if Cong loses Assembly elections

Legislative Council Opposition Leader K S Eshwarappa said that he will take retirement from political career if the BJP does not come to power next time.

He also challenged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take similar retirement from politics if the Congress did not retain power in the next elections. The leader was speaking after inaugurating the Antyodaya Samavesha organised by the BJP State Backward Classes and SC/ST Morcha at the Kuvempu Kalamandir in town on Tuesday.

“The earlier BJP government was about to form a separate department for backward classes. But, as the election was declared by then, it was not possible,” he said and urged the chief minister to form a separate department and to release necessary grants.

“Although the assaults on women are on the rise in the State, the government has done nothing to stop such incidents. Honest officials are being murdered and the chief minister is not able to stop the untoward incidents,” he said.

Eshwarappa further said that the chief minister, who was speaking about the development of the poor and down-trodden, should bring his concern to the poor, in action. If the chief minister does not fulfils his assurances for the backward, the BJP will fight against the government.

Sentiments

Legislative Assembly Opposition Chief Whip and Karkala legislator V Sunil Kumar accused the state government of hurting the feelings of majority. The State government has not implemented the programmes in the budget, he said.

BJP State General Secretary and legislator C T Ravi alleged that the chief minister has been giving statements on consumption of beef, only to divert the attention of people, from the failures of the government.

MP Shobha Karandlaje alleged that the funds meant for the development of Backward Classes, through the Social Welfare Department, have been diverted to the Department of Kannada and Culture.

BJP SC Morcha State president Krishnamurthy and ST Morcha President Somalingappa also spoke on the occasion. BJP SC/ST and Backward Classes Morcha district president Venkatesh, BJP State Vice-president Rekha Huliyappa Gowda and BJP district President Kalmaradappa were present among others.
