Speeding vehicle mows down engineering student

19-year-old bleeds to death on spot

A 19-year-old engineering student was killed on the spot when a speeding goods vehicle rammed into his bike on SM Road in Jalahalli traffic police limits on Tuesday evening.

According to the police, the deceased, Akshay Amandeep, a native of Patna, was residing in MSR Nagar near Jalahalli. He was returning home from college, when the accident occurred. Due to the impact of the collision, Akshay suffered serious head injuries in spite of wearing a helmet. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

The driver fled the spot, abandoning the vehicle soon after the accident. A case has been registered at the Jalahalli traffic police station and efforts are on to track the driver.

Held for murder attempt

A 28-year-old man, who is said to have almost killed a person for having an affair with his wife, has been arrested by the police. His friend has been apprehended for abetting him in the crime.

Mohammed, 28, from Bhoopasandra, suspected his wife of having an affair with one Syed Saud and hatched a plot with his friend, T Suresh, 32, to eliminate him. Around 6.30 pm on November 30, the duo went to Hebbal lake where they found Saud fishing, along with his friend, Babu.

They picked a fight quarrel with them and threw chilli powder on their faces. Mohammed then attacked Saud with a weapon, inflicting serious injuries on him. Assuming that he was dead, the duo fled the spot.

Babu immediately called the jurisdictional Kodigehalli police. Saud was later taken to hospital where he is said to be critical. The police later tracked down the duo.

Chain snatching incidents

The City witnessed three chain snatching incidents, two in Thyagarajanagar and one in Cottonpet police station limits, on Wednesday.

In the first incident, around 9.25 am, Paravathamma (87), a resident of NR Colony in Thyagarajanagar, was going for a morning walk near Sai Mandir when two bike-borne men snatched her gold chain. The octogenarian woman managed to hold on to her chain and the miscreants could get away with 18 grams while the rest 75 grams of the chain remained with her, said the police.

In another incident, at around 9.35 am, Vimala, 45, a resident of 5th Main Thyagarajanagar, was waiting for an autorickshaw to go to her office. Two persons came on a bike and snatched her gold chain weighing 45 grams, added the police.

In the third incident, at around 6.20 am, two bike-borne persons made away with the gold chain of a flower seller Mahadevamma. She was supplying flowers to office and shops, as she was walking on Obalaiah Road, the bike-borne men snatched her gold chain weighing 29 grams and fled the spot, the police said.

 “It is suspected that the incidents are handiwork of the Irani gang. The case has been registered in Thyagrajanagar and Cottonpet police station,” a senior police officer said.
