Mumbai cops at moral policing again

In yet another incident that highlights the brutality of the Mumbai Police, a boy and girl were beaten up brutally inside the Andheri police station after they were taken to the police station for fighting at one of the metro stations of this commercial capital.

A video clip of the incident, which went viral, showed the police personnel and lady constables beating up the girl and her companion.

Senior police officers expressed shock over the incident that took place at the Andheri police station on Monday night and assured that action will be taken against the errant cops.

This follows last week’s incident when two Muslim youth were told to go to Pakistan by a police constable inside the Bandra police station before being brutally assaulted in custody.

According to police, the girl is a resident of suburban Nalasopara while the boy lives in Byculla in South Mumbai. The work at a call centre in the Malad area. When they were seen fighting at the Andheri metro station, they were taken to the police station and beaten up.

“Both were fighting and police wanted to separate them,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Dilip Rupwate said. He also denied that any injuries were inflicted on the couple or any complaint was made from their side.

The boy and the girl were made to sit separately and after a while, she got scared and started creating a commotion which is when the cops started slapping her.

According to reports, she was also bleeding because of the beating. Later, the boy and the girl were released with a warning. An eyewitness, who works for an NGO, filmed the entire incident on camera and demanded action against the cops.
