The University Grants Commission (UGC) has agreed to recognise the courses offered by the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) for the academic year 2015-16.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Vice-Chancellor M G Krishnan said that the UGC, in a meeting held on October 28, decided to recognise the de-recognised courses.

“UGC Chairman Vedprakash has communicated this over phone. As per the directions of the UGC, the KSOU has cancelled all memorandums of understanding with institutions outside Karnataka and has also stopped online courses and technical courses. A formal order from the UGC is expected in this regard in a couple of days. Later, a notification will be issued for admission for the current academic year,” he said.

He said that correspondence was on with the UGC to get recognition for the courses offered in the years 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15. “There are positive signs from the UGC,” he added. The UGC had derecognised the KSOU courses in June, stating that the varsity had flouted rules.

Suspension sought

Meanwhile, MLC Go Madhusudhan has urged the Governor to direct the KSOU vice-chancellor for suspending the officials, indicted in the report submitted by the Bhakthavathsalam Committee. The panel has probed the irregularities reported in the university.

In a letter, Madhusudhan, a member of the Board of Management (BoM) of the KSOU, has urged the Governor, who is also the chancellor of the university, to ban the entry of the tainted officials to the KSOU campus as there are chances of the evidences against them getting tampered. The governor had constituted the probe committee headed by the former High Court judge in January this year, to probe the allegations.
