IIMB students choose 'dream companies' for summer internships

The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) has introduced a new feature in this year’s summer placement/internships process for the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in management (batch 2015-17), called the “Dream Company” choice.

The placement process concluded on November 3 and several recruiters like Tata Administrative Services, Aditya Birla Group, P&G, ITC and Hindustan Unilever, who made a number of offers, were chosen by students as their ‘dream companies’.

This year, the process witnessed the participation of 410 students with more than 150 companies offering to hire them for their summer stint. The students were recruited into various roles - from consulting, investment banking, corporate banking, sales and markets to business leadership, product management, operations and more.

More than 30 first-time companies participated in the summer placements process this year. Some of them included Anheuser Busch Inbev, Aurionpro, Fidelity Worldwide Investment, India Value Fund, Lenovo, LightBox Ventures, Texas Instruments, Nirvana Ventures, Myntra, Uber, Walmart Labs and Novartis.

Thirty per cent of the offers was made by the consulting sector. The Boston Consulting Group made 22 offers, which was also  the highest number of offers ever made by it across Indian campuses. Accenture Management Consulting made 16 offers and Mckinsey & Co. made 12 offers.

E-Commerce firms showed heightened interest with companies such as Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal, Hopscotch, Uber, Myntra, Ola Cabs, Quikr, Infoedge, LinkmySport and Channelplay making offers.

Ankur Agrawal, placement representative, said: “Consulting firms continued their preference towards hiring IIMB students with some of them making an unprecedented number of offers. Also, marquee and first time PE/VC recruiters added to the quality of offers rolled out to the students.”

Professor Ganesh Prabhu, Chairperson, Career Development Services, IIM Bangalore, said: “The Summer Placement Process 2016, was very well received by recruiters. Many of them doubled their usual number of offers based on the talent pool available in IIM Bangalore.”
