The Karnataka State Archives Department displayed a variety of historical documents belonging to Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar’s reign at Suchitra Art Gallery in Kalamandira on Thursday as part of his birth anniversary celebration.

The exhibits included 64 documents, including two-photographs of Wadiyar, marriage invitation of Vijayalakshmamanni and thread ceremony of Wadiyar.

Reactions of students

For A P Chiranth, a student, historical documents are wonderful tools to know how the people’s king Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar and his public servants used to communicate and invite people for functions.

“I am excited to see the marriage invitations of the royal family members and Dasara festival cards,” Chiranth said.

Another student, C Shivanthi feels the such documents should be opened for public view regularly.

“I have never seen such documents. The birth anniversary of Krishnaraja Wadiyar and related programmes should be extended to schools, colleges and public libraries to reach the general public and young minds,” she suggested.

Hand written documents like Mysuru Dasara Durbar invitations, marriage invitations of royal family members, food menu of the Wadiyars, car pass during dasara season, manuscripts and signatures of Wadiyar and Raja Ravi Verma and others were on display.

The exhibition was planned for a day. But District In-Charge Minister V Srinivas Prasad, after seeing the documents, requested the department to extend it for few more days.

If possible, it will be kept for public view for a couple of days, Assistant Director of the Archives Department H L Manjunath said.
