Last Updated 05 November 2015, 18:34 IST

The High Court on Thursday granted stay on the Bengaluru Urban deputy commissioner’s order denying renewal of CL-4 (Commercial Excise Licence) license to Bangalore Club.

Justice Ravi Malimath passed an interim order and granted stay on the operation of the explanation to Rule 3(4) Karnataka Excise (Sale of Indian and Foreign Liquors) Rules, 1968, which talks about registration of a club. The bench observed that as the Club has been serving liquor for the past 15 years and it is permitted to serve liquor till the disposal of the writ petition.

Bangalore Club has approached the High Court challenging the DC’s order in July, 2015, denying the Club to renew their CL-4 registration as it is not registered under Cooperative Societies Act, but registered under Companies Act.  The Club has also challenged that rule defining the registration in the said Rules.
