Three men, including a 28-year-old Nigerian, have been arrested for carjacking after booking a taxi through search service Justdial.

The deal was for a ride to Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district.
On the way, the accused overpowered the driver and fled with the Maruti Swift Dzire car.
They sold the car for Rs 70,000 in Jharkhand, police said.

The accused have been identified as Ifeko Osagie, Sandeep Nagar, 25, and Anshuman Pratap Singh, 26.

Police said the incident was reported by Jasbir Singh who runs Jasmeet Tourist Taxi Service at south Delhi’s Sarita Vihar.

On September 30, Jasbir had received a booking for a Swift DZire car to Kanpur.
“A car was sent through driver Karunakaran. The driver would have returned on October 1, but he was missing even on October 2,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-east) Mandeep Singh Randhawa.

The mobile phone of the driver and the customer were also found switched off. Subsequently, a case of abduction was registered with Sarita Vihar police station.
Several raids were conducted in which Ifeko was apprehended in Chhatarpur, south Delhi.

During interrogation, Ifeko said he along with his friends had travelled in the taxi, but he was dropped on the way and returned to Delhi.

He also disclosed that he was in Kasna Jail in UP in 2014.

During his judicial custody, he had met Sandeep, who was also in the taxi.
A police team then went to Kasna Jail and obtained details of Sandeep along with his photograph.

He was found to be a dreaded robber with involvement in several cases of UP.

During further investigation, it was revealed that Sandeep would visit Surajpur Court in Noida on October 30 to attend hearing in one of the cases pending against him.

Subsequently, a trap was laid and he was apprehended. At the instance of Sandeep, another accomplice Anshuman was arrested in his house in Noida Sector-58.
Sandeep, who is pursuing LLB from UP, disclosed that he had offered Ifeko to join his gang which Ifeko accepted. Sandeep was released from jail in June.

Since then, the gang has committed several crimes after booking taxis through Justdial.
In this case, he along with Ifeko, Anshuman and a Nigerian woman had travelled in the taxi.

“After reaching Kanpur, they tied the driver and threw him near a highway. They sold the car for Rs 70,000 in Jharkhand and returned home,” Randhawa added.

Ifeko was in judicial custody at Kasna Jail for a case of attempt to murder.
