'Behead' remark: BJP files complaint against Cong ex-MLA

The district BJP on Friday lodged a complaint with the Superintendent of Police against Congress leader and former MLA, L R Shivaramegowda, for his “beheading remark” against a BJP leader during a recent live programme aired on a news channel.

According to the complaint lodged by District BJP Unit president S Dattatri, the Congress leader had threatened to chop the head of S N Channabasappa, a leader of the saffron party, during a live programme on a news channel aired on November 3.

Channabasappa too has  lodged a similar complaint in his individual capacity, seeking the arrest of Gowda. He has also sought police protection.

Superintendent of Police Ravi D Channannavar said that he would seek  legal opinion on the complaint before proceeding furher.

He said that the incident did not occur in Shivamogga and hence it was difficult for the town police to initiate any kind of action in this regard. He further added that the complaint could be forwarded to the jurisdictional police for suitable action.

Earlier, during a protest rally in Shivamogga district on November 2,  Channabasappa, a former president of the Shivamogga City Municipal Council,  had stated that he would behead chief minister Siddaramaiah if he consumed beef in in the district. Channabasappa was later arrested for his “provocative” and “intimidatory” remarks.
