Urdu Academy's 2008-09 awards

The winners are Dr Rahi Fidai from Bangalore (poetry); Dr Ikram Baag from Bidar (fiction); Dr Khalid Sayeed from Gulbarga (criticism); Farooq Khan from Belgaum (journalism) and Masood Abdul Khalique from Gulbarga (education).

In the books category, Fayaz Shakeeb from Bangalore has won an award for ‘Sehra Ke Bagole’ in the poetry section; Kauser Praveen from Gulbarga for ‘Rehal’ in the fiction category and Maher Mansoor of Bangalore for ‘Sirisampige’ in the translation category.

Awards will also be given to 20 winners in the All India Painting Competition on Urdu couplets organised by the Academy and to 30 students who took part in Urdu literary competitions. The award ceremony will be held on February 6 at Ravindra Kalakshetra. Governor H R Bhardwaj will attend the function.
