City Police Commissioner N S Megharik has advised Bengalureans to be cautious while bursting fire crackers during Deepavali celebrations.

He directed the people to not burn fire crackers between 10 pm and 6 am and follow safety tips.

“The public can burst  firecrackers and celebrate the festival without contributing to environmental pollution. Those who burst crackers should follow safety warnings, and tips provided by ophthalmologists, considering the safety of their eyes and sight. Parents can guide their children about the ill-effects of bursting firecrackers,” Megharik said.

Not in public spaces
The commissioner requested the people not to burst crackers near schools, hospitals, churches, mosques and such other religious places. People should not burst crackers on roads and streets where there is public movement. They should strictly follow the instructions of the jurisdictional police and co-operate with them by following law and order, he said.
