The city police have taken the increasing chain-snatching cases  seriously. They have formed three special teams to nab suspected chain-snatchers from different parts of the State and a neighbouring State.

The teams left for various places on Sunday. The police suspect an inter-State gang’s involvement in chain-snatching incidents in the city. On the basis of intelligence report, teams, including City Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths, have been sent specific missions.

The teams, headed by three police inspectors --- K C Poovaiah of Saraswathipuram, A Guruprasad of Vijayanagar and N G Krishnappa of Ashokapuram police stations --- have left to nab the culprits. They suspect that the gang is operating in various places in the State and also neighbouring State. The teams have been sent on the basis of the modus operandi of the chain-snatchers, a source said.

Compared to previous years, chain-snatching cases are on the rise in the city. The miscreants had made away with eight chains in a day on July 21. In July, 14 cases were reported.

Police Commissioner B Dayananda confirmed about the teams going on the mission. “The modus operandi of the snatchers in three places are similar to Mysuru cases and thus, the teams were sent to respective places. City cops, along with local jurisdiction police, are operating to nab the culprits, he said.
