India’s largest stock exchange NSE announced rebranding of all its indices on the occasion of Dhanteras. According to a release issued by NSE, the entire family of indices from NSE’s group company – India Index Services & Products (IISL), will be rebranded, with a prefix NIFTY and some changes in names to make it more significant and meaningful.

While the CNX Nifty will now be called Nifty 50, the CNX Nifty Junior’s new name will be Nifty Next 50. The CNX 100, CNX 200 and CNX 500 have been renamed as Nifty 100, Nifty 200 and Nifty 500 respectively. A total of 53 indices have been renamed as per the exercise.
NIFTY 50 options, traded on NSE, are the largest traded contract globally in equity index options category. In addition to NSE, NIFTY 50 derivatives are also traded on the Singapore Exchange, Chicago Mercantile Exchange and Osaka Exchange.

“While this is an important indication of the attractiveness of the Indian market, it is also a significant indication of the trust, faith and respect for the NIFTY brand name. It is only natural that the name NIFTY should be the natural choice and become the umbrella brand,” NSE managing director and chief executive officer Chitra Ramkrishna said.
