Last Updated 09 November 2015, 21:05 IST

The Karnataka High Court on Monday ordered issuance of notices to the Karnataka Governor, the Lokayukta and director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a petition seeking a CBI probe into the corruption in the Lokayukta institution.

A division bench comprising Justice H Billappa and Justice K N Phaneendra ordered issuance of notices while hearing a petition filed by the Samaja Parivarthana Samudaya, which sought a CBI probe into the charges against Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao's son Yerrabati Ashwin, pertaining to the corruption in the Lokayukta institution.

“Ever since Justice Rao took over as the Lokayukta, many vacancies in the government were filled and the Lokayukta himself could be involved in these recruitments. The Special Investigation Task Force (SIT), which is probing the corruption cases in Lokayukta has not investigated the Lokayukta's role in these recruitments. Hence, the case should be handed over to the CBI,” the petitioner stated.
