Man kills neighbour to avenge humiliation

A man was allegedly stabbed to death by a neighbour in central Delhi’s Ranjeet Nagar late on Friday.

The accused was arrested on Saturday. Chandragupta Rana, 27, revealed that he attacked Lalit Kumar for revenge over being thrashed last month, police said.

A probe was initiated after Lalit, 25, was found lying in a pool of blood at Ranjeet Nagar D-Block. A call was made to the police control room at 11 pm. “Lalit was declared brought dead at Sucheta Kriplani Hospital,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Parmaditya.

Lalit’s body was later identified by his mother. She told police that her son had received a call on his mobile phone on which he left home after having dinner. Local enquiry further revealed that Lalit had a dispute with Chandragupta. They were also involved in a scuffle on Wednesday.

The needle of suspicion also hinted towards Chandragupta’s involvement when he was found missing from his house. “Chandragupta’s phone was kept under surveillance and he was arrested in north Delhi’s Sadar Bazar on Saturday,” Parmaditya added.

During interrogation, Chandragupta told police that he and Lalit used to be friends. However, Chandragupta was allegedly beaten up by Lalit last month. “There was no specific reason behind their fight, but Chandragupta used to feel embarrassed.

Chandragupta’s friends used to taunt him because of the incident,” Parmaditya said. He then hatched a conspiracy to take revenge.

Late on Friday, Chandragupta saw Lalit in Ranjeet Nagar D-Block. He whipped out a knife and stabbed Lalit. The accused now says that he did not plan to kill Lalit, but only wanted to injure him. “He got scared when Lalit collapsed. He then fled to his friend’s house in Sadar Bazar,” Parmaditya said.

A case of murder has been filed with Ranjeet Nagar police station. Chandragupta, a school dropout, works as a labourer.
