'Report on Manipal, Athradi stretch connecting Bajpe airport ready'

Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said that State government is committed towards ensuring basic infrastructural facilities to the rural areas.

Speaking after inaugurating the newly built fish market at Shirva at the cost of Rs 81 lakh and at Mudrangadi built at the cost of Rs 68 lakh, the minister said that plans have been chalked out to widen the Katpadi-Belmannu-Shirva road stretch. The work has been assigned to the Public Works Department.

He added the detailed project report (DPR) for Manipal-Athradi stretch connecting Bajpe airport is ready and has been sent to the government for the approval. The project is taken up under CRF (Calamity Relief Fund).

Noting that the works to ensure basic infrastructural facilities have been taken up phase by phase at the cost of Rs 4 crore, Sorake said the administration has taken up initiative to repair the road at Athradi up to five kilometers. The width will be increased for seven metres, he added.

He said he has visited village panchayaths across the district for six times to ensure the effective implementation of the development projects and also to have direct contacts with the people in the areas. He added that plans have been chalked out for the multi village drinking water scheme to be introduced at Hejamadi.

He said Rs 58 crore has been earmarked for the purpose and nearly 10 villages are covered. 

The other multi village drinking water project is initiated in Manipura in Kaup at the cost of Rs 64 crore, he added.
