Two fake Ayurvedic doctors caught, beaten by public

Two persons, who claimed to be Ayurvedic doctors, were thrashed by the public before being handed over to the Vidyaranyapura police on Sunday.

According to the police, the arrested men have been identified as Ramesh, 34, a native of Shivamogga and Kalaiah, 50, a native of Chikkaballapur.

The duo would go from house to house claiming to be renowned Ayurvedic doctors who could cure any kind of disease.

They would give gullible people fake medicines and promise them that their illness would be cured within months.

One of the victims paid Rs 20,000 for medicine for his family member who was paralysed.
However, the victim stated that there was no improvement even after using the medication for several months. It was then that he realised he was cheated by the duo.

On Sunday, the victim noticed the duo and alerted the public, who tried to nab them.
The duo sensed danger and fled the spot, but people chased and caught them.

They were beaten black and blue and handed over to the police.

The victim approached the police and lodged a complaint and gave the details of the duo. Based on the complaint, they were arrested.

The medicines that were seized have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination. Also, the certificates provided by the duo which stated that they had completed the course in Ayurvedic medicine will be sent to the department concerned for verification, added the police.

A case has been registered at the Vidyaranyapura police station.
