Books on children's literature to be released in Manipal today

49th, 50th publications of MUP

The Manipal University Press (MUP) will release its 49th and 50th publications at the MGM College on November 18.

Noted writer and lyricist Dr Jayant Kaikini and pro-chancellor of the Manipal University Dr H S Ballal will release the books in Kannada during the programme which will be held at 5.30 pm.

“It is a matter of pride that the MUP is ready with its 49th and 50th publications in the month of Rajyotsava with both the books in Kannada. Interestingly, both books are on children’s literature and are being released around Children’s Day,” said Dr Neeta Inamdar, chief editor of the MUP in a press release.

The books to be released are ‘Makkala Padyamanjari’, a collection of poems for children by Kayyara Kinhanna Rai and ‘Moggina Maatu’ by Dr Kathyayani Kunjibettu.

The book by Kayyara Kinhanna Rai has been provided illustrations by artist Prasad Rao G makes reading more interesting. It is ideally the 50th publication of MUP in the centenary year of the great poet. In an effort to keep the memories of the writer alive, Dr Kunjibettu, a contemporary writer, presents a critique of the Palakala Sitharama Bhat’s stories, in her book, ‘Moggina Maatu’. For the older generations, it would be a trip down memory land, while for the younger generations, it would be an inspiration to read the works of Sitharama Bhat.

The book release will be followed by a puppet show by a troupe from Gombemane Dharwad. The show is sponsored by the Department of Kannada and Culture.
