Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader said the provision of visa on arrival for economically less privileged patients from foreign countries is under consideration of the government.

Speaking at the valedictory programme of second edition of the Sustainable Smart Cities India organised by Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) and Nispana in the city on Tuesday, he said the health service in the city needs to be smart with the smart city concept.

Mangaluru is equipped with the best medical treatment and to make this accessible to the people outside India, the visa on arrival system is required for the economically backward patients from outside, he said.

He maintained that the strict adherence to laws, rules and regulations should be ensured so as to make the revenue generation more transparent.

Khader suggested tabling the plan towards the Special Purpose Vehicle, at the Mangaluru City Corporation Council, for discussions.

Khader also said that more than three city corporations can carry out collaborative efforts to set up a large scale waste and sewage treatment plant.

Deputy Mayor Purushottam Chitrapur, Leader of Opposition in the MCC Council Sudhir Shetty Kannur, MCC Commissioner Dr H N Gopalakrishna and Nispana Managing Director Narendra Kumar were present.
