A 26-year-old woman committed suicide at her residence in Chandra Layout on Monday night.

The deceased, identified as Swarnalatha, worked as a legal advisor at a private firm and is the seventh daughter of a retired police inspector.

Five of her sisters were married and Swarnalatha and her elder sister Sweety Rani were living with their parents, according to the police.

“Swarnalatha and her sister had fought over a silly reason of sharing a bedsheet and were warned by their parents. The parents left for Goa three days ago to attend a wedding and Rani, a designer in a private company was working on night shift. Swarnalatha had not gone for work for the past three days and was at one of her elder sisters’ house in Nagarbhavi. On Monday evening, she hung herself from the ceiling, said the police.

Her sisters and family members tried calling her on the phone. They were worried since there was no response from her and rushed home only to find her dead. They informed the police who shifted the body for post-mortem. The police also found a death note that was addressed to her mother asking to forgive her and saying there won't be any more fights in the house, they added.

A case has been registered in Chandra Layout police station.
