A 17-year-old student, who is suspected to have inflicted injuries on himself, alleged that two unidentified persons slashed his throat near a school at Lakshmi Nagar in Mahalakshmi Layout on Tuesday morning and fled the spot.
According to the jurisdictional police, the victim Rakesh Rao(in pic), a resident of Kamalanagar in Basaveshwaranagar, is a Class 10 student.
On Tuesday, at around 6.30 am, Prabhakar, a pani puri seller, dropped his son near the school as he had to attend tuition classes.
But the boy did not enter the school premises and a few of his classmates who found him loitering outside asked him to attend classes.
But Rakesh told them to mind their business. Around 7.30 am, he entered the classroom and told the teacher that two persons slashed his throat and fled.
The teacher noticed Rakesh bleeding profusely. The students and the teacher rushed him to a nearby hospital and informed his parents, said the police. The parents shifted the boy to MS Ramaiah Hospital, where the doctors declared him out of danger.
Prabhakar and his wife Sujatha later lodged a complaint with the Mahalakshmi Layout police alleging that their son was attacked by unidentified persons and for unknown reasons.
A senior police officer said, “We doubt the boy’s version. After speaking to his classmates and teacher, it was found that he was irregular to tuitions, especially for maths classes.
He had also told his friends that he wanted to end his life and was disturbed. On Tuesday, he might have injured himself to avoid attending classes. A sticker-cutting knife was found near the entrance of the school. Also, we have examined the CCTV footage and found him walking on the premises before entering the classroom with blood dripping from his neck at around 7:30 am.”
No evidence
“We do not have any evidence of anyone entering the campus. We will talk to the victim to get more information once he recovers. A case has been registered and investigation is being carried out,” added the officer.
The boy’s mother told Deccan Herald, “Rakesh claims that some unidentified persons slashed his neck. We are not sure if it is a self-inflicted injury. We will get to know what exactly happened only after we are allowed to meet him.”
