Deep in debt, used car dealer shoots himself dead

A dealer in used cars shot himself dead at his home in Kalidasa Layout in Girinagar police station limits on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Prem Kumar, a native of Kunigal in Tumakuru district. He committed suicide over financial troubles, said the police.

Prem Kumar had shifted to the City a few years ago and was staying with his wife, a private firm employee, and a son, who is a student of II PU at a private college, said the police.

Kumar was alone in the house after his wife went out for work and son to the college.
The son returned in the evening and knocked on the door, but there was no response from inside.

He realised that the house was locked from inside. So, he opened the door with a duplicate key and spotted his father lying in a pool of blood. He called neighbours for help and the police were informed, added the police.

No death note
The incident may have occurred between 10 am and 3 pm but there was no death note, said DCP (South) B S Lokesh Kumar.

Kumar’s wife told the police that her husband never had a revolver and she did not know who provided him the weapon. She told the police that he was facing financial crunch and had borrowed loans from various sources. She suspected that he killed himself over financial trouble, the police added.

The body was shifted to a hospital for post-mortem.
