Hundreds of parents blocked Hosur Road (National Highway-7) on Wednesday protesting the sexual assault on a four-year-old girl in a private school premises by a physical education teacher on Monday.

The protesters staged a demonstration in front of the school and demanded the immediate arrest of the chairperson of the school management and headmistress for their failure in ensuring safety of children. The local police rushed to the spot, held meetings and pacified the protesters. The parents withdrew the protest after the police promised that they would convene a meeting of parents on November 23.

A large number of parents gathered in front of the school around 9 am and raised slogans against the management and the head mistress.

Additional forces
They even demanded the police to hand over Romeo, the accused physical education teacher, who was arrested for raping the girl, to their custody so that they can “teach him a lesson.” The police deployed additional forces to control the situation.

The parents claimed that the school management had collected Rs 5,000 from every parent for the child maintenance, but failed in ensuring safety. They said that the school management had sent messages on their mobiles announcing holiday for five days.

There was a notice displayed on the notice board which stated that the holidays were declared due to heavy rains. The management declared holidays only to hush up the matter, they claimed.

M Munireddy, BEO (South-3), who visited the school for an inspection had a tough time in pacifying the parents.

“A complaint has been lodged with the police and Romeo has already been arrested. I could not meet any teacher as the management had declared a holiday. I will revisit the school on Thursday and complete the inspection,” he told reporters.

In judicial custody
The police said  Romeo was a soccer player and hails from northeast. He was working in a BPO before joining the school. He had joined Fit Kids, an placement agency that provides teachers to various schools. Romeo has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
