A woman working with a rehabilitation centre was arrested with heroin in outer Delhi’s Rohini. She was apparently selling the drugs to people reporting there, police said on Sunday.

The woman has been identified as Beena Gupta, a resident of Budh Vihar. Police recovered 110 grams of heroin worth around Rs 10 lakh from her possession.

Sub-inspector Manoj with crime branch’s narcotics cell was informed about Beena on November 19.

“We were told that she was taking advantage of working with the rehabilitation centre,” said a police officer.

On November 19, Beena was expected to meet a customer near MetroWalk Adventure. Accordingly, a police team laid a trap on the road between Rithala Metro station and Rohini Sector 11 at 11.30 am, she was seen walking from Rithala Metro station.

“Beena started waiting for someone near the police team in plain clothes. She was there for around five minutes and then began to leave,” the officer added. The police team immediately moved in and apprehended her.

On search, heroin was found in a polythene bag. A case under NDPS Act has been registered with crime branch police station. On being questioned, Beena told police that she was in the business since the death of her husband Lokesh.

Sources said that her husband was also in the business. Beena continued it to earn easy money by selling them to people whom she met at the rehabilitation centre. She worked as a labourer there.

Beena also revealed that she used to procure the drugs from a man who regularly travelled from Bihar to Delhi. He is suspected to be a major drugs supplier in Delhi and NCR.

The investigating team has analysed the call data records of Beena’s mobile phone to identify her accomplices. Police have also conducted raids to nab the supplier, but no other arrest has been made so far.
