MLA Jagadish Kumar dies of cardiac arrest

First-time BJP MLA from Hebbal constituency R Jagadish Kumar, who had a very good attendance record in the Legislative Assembly, died of cardiac arrest here on Monday, barely two hours after he participated in the proceedings and left the House. He was 58.

He had attended the Assembly session and even participated in a dharna along with fellow BJP members inside the Assembly. He was seen in the lobby of the House till 4 pm. He died of cardiac arrest at 6 pm. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. The cremation will be held in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

Dr Madan Kumar, Administrator, Vikram Hospitals, said, “He had come with symptoms, undergone relevant examination and was advised to undergo a surgery. Just as he walked out of the doctor’s room, he collapsed in the corridor”. Kumar did not have a history of heart disease, according to doctors.


The news of Jagadish Kumar’s death reached the Assembly when a section of BJP leaders were addressing a press conference on the Upalokayukta removal issue. “I cannot believe it. I spoke to him at 4 pm. He was sitting in the lobby and I had requested him to come inside as the issue regarding garbage menace in Bengaluru was being taken up,” Opposition Chief Whip Sunil Kumar said.
