Kalam's grand nephew quits BJP

Last Updated 23 November 2015, 19:40 IST

Almost three years after joining the BJP,  former president A P J Abdul Kalam’s grand nephew resigned from the party, disgusted over ‘the Modi government’s refusal to convert former president’s bungalow into a knowledge centre as demanded by his family.

A P J Syed Haja Ibrahim gave up the BJP’s primary membership and resigned as vice-president of the minority wing of party’s Tamil Nadu unit. “It (setting up a knowledge centre) was the wish of not only the former president, but the entire nation. I am resigning from my post as this centre has not been set up despite repeated requests. I am also resigning from the primary membership of BJP,” he told PTI.

The government had earlier explained that 10 Rajaji Marg cannot be converted into a memorial for “people’s president” owing to official policy as it was not done in case of Jat leader Charan Singh.
